How to Build a Simple Skincare Routine for Your Skin Type

Bronagh, Beauty Therapist at Give Us Beauty
If you’ve ever stood looking at skincare products wondering where to start, you’re not alone.
One of the most common questions I get asked is, “What skincare products should I be using?”
With so much advice online, it can feel overwhelming. New ingredients, trends and routines seem to appear every week, but the truth is that healthy-looking skin doesn’t have to be complicated.
In my experience, the best skincare routine is one that suits your skin type and is simple enough to stick to every day.
Here’s my guide to creating an effective skincare routine that works.
Step 1: Identify Your Skin Type
Before buying any skincare products, it’s important to understand your skin type.
Dry Skin
Dry skin can often feel tight, flaky or rough. It may appear dull and can sometimes feel uncomfortable after cleansing.
Oily Skin
Oily skin produces excess oil, particularly around the forehead, nose and chin. You may notice enlarged pores or occasional breakouts.
Combination Skin
Combination skin is one of the most common skin types. Typically, the T-zone is oily while the cheeks are normal or dry.
Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin can react easily to products, weather changes or certain ingredients. Redness, irritation and dryness can be common concerns.
If you’re unsure which category your skin falls into, don’t worry. At Give Us Beauty we’re always happy to help guide you towards products suited to your individual skin concerns.
Step 2: Cleanse Morning and Evening
Cleansing is the foundation of every good skincare routine.
Throughout the day your skin collects makeup, SPF, oil, dirt and environmental pollutants. A good cleanser removes these impurities and prepares your skin for the next steps in your routine.
For those with sensitive or dry skin, the [LINK]Elave range[/LINK] is one of my favourite recommendations. Their products are gentle, effective and suitable for even sensitive skin types.
The goal is to leave your skin feeling clean and comfortable, not tight or stripped.
Step 3: Use a Serum to Target Specific Concerns
Once your skin is cleansed, a serum can help target your individual concerns.
These may include:
- Dehydration
- Dullness
- Uneven skin tone
- Fine lines
- Redness
- Breakouts
Serums contain concentrated ingredients that help support your skincare goals.
For hydration, hyaluronic acid is a fantastic ingredient. If your skin is looking dull or tired, Vitamin C can help improve brightness and radiance.
The Q+A Skincare Collection is a great option for anyone looking to introduce targeted ingredients into their routine without overcomplicating things.
For those interested in Korean skincare, our Medicube Collection has become incredibly popular thanks to its innovative formulas and focus on healthy, glowing skin.
Step 4: Moisturise Every Day
One of the biggest skincare myths is that oily skin doesn’t need moisturiser.
The reality is that every skin type benefits from hydration.
A good moisturiser helps support your skin barrier, lock in moisture and keep your skin feeling balanced throughout the day.
If you have dry skin, you may prefer a richer cream, while oily or combination skin often benefits from lighter formulations.
Our Moisturisers Collection contains options suitable for a variety of skin types and concerns.
Step 5: Never Skip SPF
If I could recommend only one anti-ageing product, it would be SPF.
Daily sun protection helps protect the skin from premature ageing, pigmentation and environmental damage.
Many people only think about SPF when they’re going on holiday, but UV rays affect our skin all year round, including here in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Applying SPF every morning is one of the simplest and most effective things you can do for your skin.

Common Skincare Mistakes I See
As a Beauty Therapist, these are some of the most common mistakes I come across:
- Using too many products at once
- Changing products too frequently
- Skipping moisturiser because of oily skin
- Forgetting daily SPF
- Over-exfoliating
- Following skincare trends without considering skin type
Remember, skincare doesn’t need to be complicated. Consistency will always beat complexity.

My Final Advice
Healthy skin isn’t about having a bathroom shelf full of products.
The most effective skincare routines are often the simplest.
Start with a cleanser, moisturiser and SPF. Once you have those basics in place, you can gradually introduce serums and targeted treatments if needed.
At Give Us Beauty, we believe skincare should feel simple, enjoyable and tailored to your individual needs. Whether you’re just starting your skincare journey or looking to improve your current routine, we’re always happy to help.
